The north Chicago suburb of Vernon Hills is moving forward with a plan to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21.

On Tuesday, the Vernon Hills village trustees indicated they would support an increase of the minimum required age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21. The actual bill won’t be ready until July 5 and a formal vote is still needed.

Vernon Hills is a village of 25,000, located less than an hour outside of Chicago.
