Foundation Cigar Co.’s Wise Man Maduro Firecracker will be making its return to store shelves in the coming days, as United Cigars that it is ready to begin shipping the cigar to retailers on Aug. 22. United Cigars announced the return of the cigar at this year’s PCA Convention & Trade Show, but had previously not set a release date.

The Wise Man Maduro Firecracker was originally made for the 2021 installment of United Cigars’ Firecracker series, a collection of short, often potent cigars made by manufacturers for the celebration of the July 4th holiday and distributed by United Cigars. They are recognizable not just for their size but for using a twist of tobacco coming off of the cap to create the appearance of a wick.

“The rerelease of a limited edition Wise Man Maduro Firecracker is extremely exciting, this is an amazing capture,” said Oliver Nivaud, director of operations for United Cigars.

The Wise Man Maduro Firecracker, which is made by Foundation Cigar Co., measures 3 1/2 x 50 and uses a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, a corojo binder grown in Nicaragua’s Jalapa region, while the fillers come from Nicaragua’s Jalapa and Estelí regions. They are produced at AGANORSA Leaf’s Agricola Ganadera Norteña S.A. in Estelí.

“The Wise Man Firecracker is a special little smoke that explodes with flavor the moment you light it,” said Nicholas Melillo of Foundation Cigar Co. via a press release. “This is a special addition to the Wise Man Maduro line and it’s a pleasure to work with United Cigars.”

For this second release, 1,000 boxes have been produced, each containing 20 cigars, making for a total run of 20,000 cigars. Pricing is set at $9 per cigar and $180 per box.

The rerelease version was rolled separately from the first batch, per Nivaud, and does not feature any markings or other indicators to distinguish the first batch from the second.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
