Toraño will begin shipping the fifth size in their Salutem line this week, a 5 1/2 x 55 box-pressed vitola called the Salutem Box Press.

Miguel Schoedel, a sales representative for the company, posted this Tweet on Sunday evening:

This is the first box pressed cigar in the Toraño Salutem line and brings the total number of available sizes to five:

  • Robusto Extra – 5 x 52
  • Toro Major – 5 5/8 x 55
  • Piramide – 6 1/8 x 52
  • BFC – 6 1/8 x 60
  • Box Press – 5 1/2 x 55

It will be the first cigar in the Salutem line to be packaged in 18-count boxes, with the other four vitolas transitioning to that format by years end, according to Jack Toraño, the marketing and public relations director for Toraño Family Cigar Co. MSRP was not announced, though the similarly sized Toro Major has an MSRP of $88.80 per box, or  $7.40 per cigar. The Toraño Salutem line has box MSRPs between $86.40 and $105.12.

The Toraño Salutem debuted at the 2012 IPCPR trade show in Orlando. It uses an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper over a binder from the Jalapa region of Nicaragua and filler from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Cameroon. The Salutem is the first cigar that Toraño has made with Cameroon as a component of the filler. The name comes from a Latin word used when exchanging a friendly greeting, and according to the company website, “Salutem is inspired by the character and strong will of those who overcome great challenges and adversity. Salutem represents a celebration of life and raises a toast to all those who live life to the fullest.”

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
