As the name of the company would suggest, fathers play an important role at My Father Cigars, a fact that the company reiterated with the release of the My Father Le Bijou 1922 100 Años line in 2022. The cigars commemorate what would have been the 100th birthday of José García Alayón, the father of the family’s patriarch, José “Pepín” García. Pepín released the Le Bijou line in 2009 as a tribute to his father, and this year he modified the regular production Le Bijou 1922 blend to make a slightly stronger version for this limited edition.

Using a habano-seed wrapper leaf that the company refers to as both “Habano My Father,” as well as “oscuro oscuro” due to its dark brown color, the cigar starts with the signature Pepín blast of pepper atop a rich earthiness to quickly awaken the senses. From there, the My Father-grown tobaccos take the smoker on a journey in both flavor and aroma, steadily mellowing and becoming creamier in the second third in preparation for a stronger finish in the final third. Between the flavor and near-flawless construction, this is a cigar that is easy to enjoy as long as you like its fuller, stronger aspects, as it does tend to pack a punch at times. But beyond that, it’s a cigar that shows a wonderful progression of flavors and does a commendable job celebrating the life of the man it honors. — Patrick Lagreid.
