For seemingly the last decade or so, Nicaragua has held the reins on attention-garnering tobacco. Maybe it’s the cigars that use it, maybe it’s the companies who make those cigars, and of course, maybe it is the tobacco itself, much of which is very good. But while Nicaragua has the spotlight, Honduras has been a country that has impressed time and time again as a country that can really put out some flavorful leaves.

Case in point, the Aladino Habano Vintage Selection Rothschild. The cigars uses a Honduran habano wrapper over a Honduran corojo binder and filler, all of which come from JRE Tobacco Co.’s Finca Corojo farms outside of Danlí. But not only that, the cigars that use that tobacco were rolled in 2015 and 2016, meaning that they had four or five years of rest before they landed on store shelves. As we all know, time and great tobacco tends to produce very enjoyable results.

The Aladino Habano Vintage Selection was only released in the 4 1/2 x 48 Rothschild vitola, a relatively small cigar but one that it not short on flavor or complexity, and keeps all that it has to offer in near perfect balance. This is an excellent example of some of the best that Honduran tobacco has to offer. — Patrick Lagreid.
