There’s something to be said about setting expectations high with a name like Supreme Leaf, but there’s even more to be said about delivering on that billing. That’s what AGANORSA Leaf did with the Torpedo vitola, which came out during the summer of 2021 but didn’t get reviewed until January 2022.

I’ll be the first to admit that my initial encounters with the Supreme Leaf blend back in 2020 fell short of the expectations set by the name, but this new vitola had me singing a different tune. Whether it’s due to the slightly larger size, the tapered head focusing the smoke, or just a bit of variance in the crops of tobacco, this size improved on the issues that I had with the original robusto vitola and then took it even higher.

Three keywords landed in my review—as you might notice they also show up a lot on this list—smooth, complex and balanced. Beyond that though, the Supreme Leaf Torpedo excelled in being dynamic without trying to do too much. While there are a number of notable flavors that I could mention, the most unique is a wasabi-like sensation that the pepper delivers. Instead of hitting the nostrils with pepper, the Supreme Leaf Torpedo almost works from the inside out, opening up the olfactory nerves while providing a distinctive tingle.

The Supreme Leaf Torpedo is a great reminder of how blends can change over time and vary by vitola; while I’m not sure which one was the driving force here, I’m certainly pleased by the outcome. — Patrick Lagreid.
