The Emilio brand is now in its third chapter. It started with Gary Griffith at the helm, though the brand was owned by L.J. Zucca, Inc. In 2015, Griffith was no longer part of Emilio and Scott Zucca of L.J. Zucca took a more active role in running the brand. In 2019, the third chapter began as Black Label Trading Co. took over production and sales, though L.J. Zucca remains the owner of the brand.

The result of the latter change was a move in production to the Fabrica Oveja Negra factory as well as branding that looks quite different than the ones from a decade ago. In 2019, the company debuted the LJZ, a two-size regular production line that paid tribute to L.J. Zucca’s founders. A year later, the LJZ Limited came out in two sizes and with two wrapper on a single cigar.

In terms of profile, the Emilio LJZ Limited Edition Robusto exhibits not only an extremely enjoyable woodiness, but also nuts, earth and a bit of floral—all of which are balanced extremely well with some black pepper and medium-plus strength. — Brooks Whittington.
