Without a doubt, there is no singular sporting event that garners more attention in the U.S. than a certain professional football game played around the end of January or early February. In 2015, La Flor Dominicana recognized this fact and figured that such a big event called for a special cigar, one that came dressed with a football on it. Not only that, it would be limited in its sales to the state in which the Super Bowl, err game, was played, meaning that four different parts of the country have received this limited release.
This year, the cigar was released to retailers in Minnesota in a figurado vitola measuring 6 ½ inches long with a ring gauge of 60 at the foot and 52 near the head. As for the blend, the dual wrapper used an Ecuadorian habano for the base and Ecuadorian Connecticut for the lighter accents, while Dominican tobacco was used for the binder and filler.
While the cigar could have been commended simply for its design, it delivered on flavor as well. Fans of La Flor's signature rich and powerful profiles weren’t disappointed, while those looking for flavor were treated to a complex and at times, surprisingly bright offering. The result was a cigar that showed it could be balanced without sacrificing flavor or strength, and made for an enjoyable experience both for the game and long after it. — Patrick Lagreid.
