A new series of cigars from Habanos S.A. is always a big deal, and the introduction of the Línea Retro series—which translates to retro line from Spanish—was no different. What is different about the series is that the cigars aren’t new, rather, Habanos S.A. is rereleasing smaller cigars that were sold in five–count metal tins that were popular in the 1970s.

The line debuted with two 5 1/8 (129mm) x 42 petit corona cigars: the Partagás Capitols and the Romeo y Julieta Club Kings. A third, the H. Upmann Regalías, was added in November.

The Partagás Capitols is highlighted by a surprising amount of spice from the first puff, while flavors of sourdough bread, cinnamon and creamy cedar dominant the profile throughout the entire cigar. There is also a very distinct floral sweetness on the retrohale that combines very well with the perfect amount of white pepper, both of which increase noticeably in strength by the end of the smoke.

In the end, while the large price tag for such a small cigar may turn some people off from trying the Partagás Capitols, it would mean they would lose out on trying the #17 cigar on our list. — Brooks Whittington.
