If there is a brand in the Altadis U.S.A. portfolio that never seems to get the respect or attention it deserves, it is VegaFina, at least not in the United States. It seems to do better internationally, which is why this was originally created as a European market release for Tabacalera S.L.U., Altadis' international cousin.
For as clunky of a name as the cigar has, it’s an incredibly smooth smoke that offers tempered amounts of pepper, citrus sweetness, and other nuanced and subtle flavors. The blend is highlighted by a seven-year-old Ecuadorian habano wrapper, along with an Indonesian binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
Fortunately, plans changed and the cigar is now available stateside and best of all, it’s $5.99 MSRP is incredibly affordable. For a cigar on the mellower side that offers an impressive amount of engagement and delivers value well above its price, this is one worth searching out. — Patrick Lagreid.
