Ted’s Cigars recently announced a partnership with Patrón tequila that has resulted in a new line of cigars, the Ted’s Cigars Patrón Añejo Seasoned Cigar.
Ted’s Cigars announced the new release via this photo posted to their Facebook page.
Available in a single 6 x 50 Toro vitola, the cigar uses a Habano wrapper, Dominican Piloto Cubano binder, and Mexican San Andrés, Dominican Piloto Cubano, Dominican Habano, and Dominican Criollo 98 fillers. All cigar come in individually sealed glass tubes and are available in singles, gift boxes of three cigars or standard boxes of 10 or 25 cigars. The cigar has an MSRP of $11 per stick, with three-packs selling for $30.00, boxes of 10 for $95.00 and boxes of 25 for $225. The cigars can be purchased directly from Ted’s Cigars or at selected retailers.
Ted’s has not announced specifics of how the tequila is used in the cigar, other than to say they have been “seasoned” with it. (See update below for further information.)
In May 2013, Ted’s Cigars announced a collaboration with Duck Commander, the company that produces duck calls featured in the hit A&E series Duck Dynasty, which resulted in the officially licensed “Duck Commander Cigar.” Ted’s Cigars has also released cigars in collaboration or partnership with Dale Earnhardt, Jr.,Maker’s Mark, Grand Marnier and Dumante Verdenoce Pistachio Liqueur.
Update (October 29, 2013) — Ted’s Cigars spokesman Erik Samelson tells halfwheel that “we season the cigars by suspending them over the tequila for a specified time period. While the tequila never comes in contact with the cigar, it imparts a subtle aroma onto the tobacco that is present when the cigar is smoked. The tobacco is blended specifically to pair with Patron Anejo Tequila (as is the case with each of our cigar brands and their respective spirit).” Hopefully that explains the seasoning process a bit better.
