The Swiss Senate rejected a bill that would have further restricted tobacco advertising.

Because Switzerland is not part of the European Union—it coincidentally also formally withdrew its application to join on Wednesday—it’s not subject to EU tobacco advertising laws that would prohibit various forms of advertising including advertisements for tobacco products online and in some magazines.

The proposed law would have restricted tobacco advertising on billboards nationwide, something that differs regionally within the country.
