The minimum age to purchase tobacco in the nine townships in Summit County, Ohio will increase from 18 to 21 effective July 1.

Earlier today, the Summit County Council voted 8-3 in favor of increasing the minimum age to purchase tobacco from 18 to 21 for all tobacco products and e-cigarettes and vapor products. The measure doesn’t affect cities in the county, but rather only affects the townships: Bath, Boston, Copley, Coventry, Northfield Center, Richfield, Sagamore Hills, Springfield and Twinsburg.

Summit County has a population of around 540,000. Its most notable city is the county seat, Akron.
