In two weeks, The Consensus 2021 will be published.

Just about every cigar publication you’ve ever heard of—and plenty of them you’ve never heard of—have published, are currently in the process of publishing, or are planning on publishing some sort of top cigars of 2021 list. While there are many different lists, some with just a single cigar and some with as many as 40 different cigars mentioned, there’s no list quite like The Consensus.

This year will be the 11th year for The Consensus. It’s published here at halfwheel but it’s hardly our Top 25 list, that comes out next week. Instead, The Consensus is based on trying to figure out what would happen if you put all of the top cigars lists together. What cigar would win? Would there be any similarities? Would there be a consensus?

I’ve never looked at The Consensus as “the best list.” It’s not a list I usually agree with, it rarely even mirrors a little bit of what halfwheel does, but it’s probably the most interesting list. The Consensus is all about data and the more data it gets, the better the list is.

So, I’m asking you to let me know about lists you’ve seen from magazines, bloggers, podcasters, YouTubers, etc.

Last year, there were 40 different lists used, but this year I’m hoping for more. I actively check in on people/outlets who were included in the previous year, so I don’t need you reminding me about any of these lists. But, I’m sure there were lists that got missed last year.

If you don’t see a list on there you think should be included, please leave a comment below. There are some basic qualifications, so it doesn’t mean that the list will be included. In general, if the list can meet the following rules, it will be included.

  1. You Have to Review Cigars — Or at least a cigar. You need to at least review one cigar in 2021. It doesn’t matter if you score the cigar, it doesn’t matter really how you did it, but if you don’t review cigars you probably shouldn’t be included alongside cigar reviewers.
  2. You Can’t Have an Obvious Conflict of Interest — If the list is coming from a cigar retailer or a cigar manufacturer, it probably isn’t getting included.
  3. It Can’t be a User-Driven List — For the same reasons above, these lists aren’t what I am looking for.
  4. Lists must be published by Jan. 21, 2022 11:59 p.m. — The Consensus gets published that Monday, any list that comes out after Friday night cannot be included for logistical reasons.

If you would prefer to send me an email, you may do that as well.
