StillWell Star, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust’s new pipe tobacco-inspired release, is debuting this Friday at a store that has some ties to the cigar itself.
This is one of the most unique line of cigars to debut in recent years, a quartet of 6 x 52 toros that each use the same wrapper and binder. If that wasn’t enough, not only does each cigar use a different filler tobacco blend, some of the filler tobaccos themselves are different than what’s found in other cigars. Each cigar contains a different type of pipe of tobacco.
- StillWell Star Aromatic No. 1 (6 x 52) — $15.30 (Box of 13, $198.89) — Includes Black Cavendish, Golden Virginia and Burly pipe tobaccos as well as Nicaraguan leaves in the filler.
- StillWell Star English No. 27 (6 x 52) — $15.30 (Box of 13, $198.89) — Includes Burly and Turkish pipe tobaccos as well as a “generous portion” of Cypriot Latakia pressed cake and Nicaraguan leaves in the filler.
- StillWell Star Bayou No. 32 (6 x 52) — $15.30 (Box of 13, $198.89) — Includes Bright, Red Virginia and St. James Parish Perique pipe tobaccos as well as Nicaraguan leaves in the filler.
- StillWell Star Navy No. 1056 (6 x 52) — $15.30 (Box of 13, $198.89) — Includes stoved Red and Golden Virginias, a “touch of “Naval Rations,” Orientals and Latakia pipe tobaccos blended with dark air-cured black cigar leaves in the filler.
All four cigars use a high-priming Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper over a Mexican San Andrés negro “cultivo tronto” binder.
The pipe tobaccos used for these cigars were blended by Jeremy Reeves, head blender of Cornell & Diehl, while the cigars are made at Fábrica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Cornell & Diehl is part of Laudisi Enterprises, a company with a large presence in the pipe and pipe tobacco worlds. As part of the collaboration, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust granted Laudisi’s retail operations the launch event(s) for StillWell Star, which will take place this Friday, Nov. 5.
The cigars will go on sale at Low Country Pipe & Cigar in Little River, S.C., as well as smokingpipes.com; both retailers are owned by Laudisi Enterprises. The stores will receive a combined 300 boxes, 75 boxes of each blend. The in-person event will be a ticketed event, each $50 ticket will come with a sampler of “four core-line Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust cigars.”
Steve Saka, founder of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, told halfwheel that he hopes to begin shipping StillWell Star to other retailers by the end of the month.
Update (Nov. 22, 2021) — Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust has announced that StillWell Star has begun shipping to all of the accounts that have ordered it.
