Southern Draw Cigars has announced a new addition to its portfolio, the QuickDraw Connecticut, that promises to deliver a balanced of strength, flavor and body not typically found in Connecticut-wrapped cigars.

The new line uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder from Ometepe and Nicaraguan fillers from Estelí and Condega. The line will debut in two sizes, a Petit Corona (4 1/2 x 44, $5) and Short Pantela (5 1/2  x 40, $5.50), both of which complement the name QuickDraw for their ability to be smoked in approximately 30 minutes, and both featuring a pigtail cap and closed foot. As with all of Southern Draw’s cigars, the QuickDraw Connecticut is being made at A.J. Fernandez’s Tabacalera Fernandez S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua.

In a press release, Southern Draw Cigars founder Robert Holt said that the cigars were influenced by his appreciation of cafe Cubano, coladas and cafecitos, which show “the strength of dark roast espresso, the sweetness of hydrolyzed sugar and the light creaminess of the espumita or crema that sits atop the coffees.” He added that the small vitolas were selected to further enhance the coffee experience.

Holt went on to say that the blend is “a celebration of the morning and mid-day cultural and social coffee-related activity that is prominent among most all Cuban and Latin Americans, many of whom have cultivated this fabulous cigar industry and whose knowledge and support has been a catalyst for Southern Draw Cigars’ entrance into the industry.”

The cigars are slated to be released through a series of retail events and cigar socials between April and June. A total of 100,000 cigars are being produced this year, split evenly between the two sizes.

The QuickDraw Connecticut becomes the third blend in the QuickDraw line from Southern Draw Cigars, joining the QuickDraw Ecuadorian Dark Habano and QuickDraw Pennsylvania Broadleaf. The company also offers the Firethorn and Kudzu lines.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
