The Atlanta suburb of Smyrna has increased the minimum age to purchase and possess tobacco from 18 to 21.

Earlier this week, the Smyrna City Council voted unanimously to increase the minimum age to purchase, possess and use tobacco products from 18 to 21. The new law will take effect Jan. 1, 2020.

Smyrna has a population of around 50,000. It is located in Cobb County, about 12 miles northwest from Atlanta.
