Skokie, Ill. Joins Tobacco 21 Movement
The village of Skokie, Ill. has joined the Tobacco 21 movement, as on Thursday the Village Board unanimously approved an increase in the minimum age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21-years-old.
It adds another Illinois municipality to a growing list that have passed similar increases, including Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Naperville and Highland Park, among several others.
The town did not specify a date when the change will go into effect in the meeting agenda published on its website, while a report from ChicagoTribune.com did not mention a date either.
Skokie is located approximately 15 miles northwest of Chicago and is home to just over 64,000 residents.
