Sinistro Cigars has just wrapped up the nationwide release of a new limited edition vitola called Scala that is being added to each of the company’s three lines.

The Scala is a 4 1/2 x 38/60 perfecto that features a shaggy foot as well as a unique swirl of tobacco that runs the length of the cigar. It is priced at $11.95 per cigar and comes packed in 20-count boxes. James Agopian, co-founder of Sinistro Cigars, said that only one roller at the La Aurora Cigar Factory is able to produce the cigars, which limits production to 2,000 cigars per year.

Sinistro debuted in August 2014 with three core lines, Mr. White, Mr. Red and Mr. Black, each coming in four sizes.

Mr. White is on the milder side, using a Dominican wrapper, dual binder of Ecuadorian and Cameroon leaves and a filler containing tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, United States and Nicaragua to create a more subtle profile. It is offered in a Robusto ($7.95), Toro ($8.95), Belicoso ($8.95) and Presidente (7 x 58, $9.95).

Mr. Black is a blend that taps into Nicaraguan tobacco for both the wrapper and binder, while the filler uses more Nicaraguan leaves alongside tobaccos from the Dominican Republic and United States that is described as a combination of flavor and strength. It is offered in the same sizes and at the same prices as the Mr. White line.

Rounding out the core lines is Mr. Red, which uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, Ecuadorian binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic, United States and Nicaragua. While it shares the same sizes as the other two lines, each vitola is $1 cheaper.

All of the cigars are produced at La Aurora Cigar Factory in the Dominican Republic, with Manuel Inoa and James Agopian credited as the blenders of the three lines.

Sinistro Cigars is based out of Glendale, Calif. and is currently carried by a number of shops within the state, as well as by shops in Oregon, South Carolina and Rhode Island.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
