Beginning in 2019, Singapore will gradually increase the minimum age to purchase tobacco from the current requirement of 18 to 21.

The new law covers purchasing, possession and use of tobacco products, unlike most laws in the U.S., which are largely limited to sale.

It will go into effect Jan. 1, 2019 with the following schedule:

  • Jan. 1, 2019 — Minimum Age Increased to 19
  • Jan. 1, 2020 — Minimum Age Increased to 20
  • Jan. 1, 2021 — Minimum Age Increased to 21

The new law covers all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes.
