In mid-June, the Shreveport City Council passed a ban on smoking and vaping in city parks as well as bars and most businesses, including casinos, with an implementation date set for early August. On Tuesday, however, the council voted to delay its implementation by a year, but only specific areas for casinos.
With the amendment to the ordinance, the smoking ban will not go into effect for the gaming areas of casinos until Aug. 1, 2021, while other businesses and city parks, as well as non-gaming areas of casinos, will see the ban go into effect on Aug. 8, 2020.
Shreveport is located in the northwest corner of the state, less than 15 miles from the Texas border. It has a population of around 189,000 residents.
