Las Cumbres Tabaco will be introducing a new size in both the Señorial Maduro and Freyja lines at next month’s IPCPR Convention & Trade Show.

The Señorial Maduro will get El Cuadro, a 5 3/4 x 46 ring gauge box pressed corona, a fitting shape given that the name translates from Spanish as the frame. It retains the blend’s Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, Dominican piloto Cubano binder and fillers of Dominican piloto and Criollo 98, arriving with an MSRP of $7.50 per cigar and in 21-count boxes.

Freyja will add another cigar in reference to the god Thor, this time called Mjölnir and named for his iconic hammer. It’s a 6 1/2 x 55 trunk pressed toro priced at $9, and will also come in 21-count boxes. The blend for this new size remains the same, with a Dominican criollo 98 wrapper, Mexican binder and Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. It becomes the thickest cigar in the line, something Emma Viktorrson had wanted to do since introducing the line in smaller ring gauges. “I wanted something different and box-press clicked for me; I feel it’s an interesting addition, and I had fun with the name, the name of Thor’s hammer was another click in my mind for this size and shape,” she said.

For those wondering, Viktorrson says it’s pronounced ‘Me-YOEL-nir,” with a soft and a rolled r.

She added that the two new sizes were planned independently of one another, and the box-press happened to be a coincidence. “I forgot who, many months ago, said to the other ‘I’m thinking of making a box-press’ and the other one said ‘me too, didn’t I tell you?'” she told halfwheel, referring to José Blanco and his Señorial Maduro line. El Cuadro becomes the second thinnest vitola in that line, and the box-pressed version stemmed from the requests of both consumers and retailers.

Both new cigars are regular production additions and are being produced at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic, which is owned by Jochy Blanco, the cousin of José Blanco. Shipping will begin immediately following the conclusion of the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show on July 28.
