Scrim by HutcH Studio is paying tribute to law enforcement and firefighters with its newest release, the Protector Series.

The cutters start with a black chrome XIKAR Xi3 cutter body, a double guillotine with stainless steel blades that can cut cigars up to a 60 ring gauge. Rick Hutchings then adds an acrylic handle with the colored line on both the front and back sides for the left side of the cutter. The right handle is made of buffalo horn and is left blank so that it can be customized by Hutchings with a badge number.

Both cutters have a retail price of $300 and include a hand sewn leather pouch for protection. The Thin Blue Line version will be a glossy black leather, while the Thin Red Line version will use bright red leather and black stitching.

Both cutters, which are now available, are being added as regular production items and can be purchased directly from Scrim by HutcH Studio as well as through cigar retailers.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
