Sandusky, Ohio Approves Initial Reading of Parks Smoking Ban

It appears that in approximately six weeks, smokers in Sandusky, Ohio will no longer be allowed to light up in parks or other recreational areas.

On Monday, the Sandusky City Commission approved the first reading of a proposal to ban smoking in all parks by a 5-2 vote, according to a report by SanduskyRegister.comThe bill was an expansion of an existing ordinance that prevented smoking within 25 feet of playgrounds or playground equipment.

The bill is expected to gets its second reading and passage at the commission’s next meeting on April 23. Should it be passed then, it would go into effect 30 days later, on May 23. Once in effect, violators will be subject to a minor misdemeanor,

Sandusky is located just over 60 miles west of Cleveland and is home to approximately 25,000 residents.
