Earlier this week the Saginaw City Council unanimously passed an ordinance that will ban smoking in city parks and recreational facilities.
The ban applies to the smoking of traditional tobacco products such as cigars, cigarettes and pipes, as well as e-cigarettes and vaping devices. It also applies to the smoking of marijuana and related products, which was included as the city looks to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.
The ordinance goes into effect on Sept. 3, at which point violators will be subject to a fine of $50.
Saginaw is home to just over 48,000 residents.
