The Room101 Daruma line is scheduled to make its return in the coming weeks, as the company was taking orders for the cigar at the Total Product Expo (TPE) this week in Las Vegas for its newest iteration.

The cigars themselves were not on display, but an image on a sales sheet showed them packaged in a black and gold color scheme, and they appeared to be fully wrapped in  printed paper. As for the blend, it is a Nicaraguan puro, though the company is not disclosing any specifics about the varietals of tobaccos being used, or in which of the country’s tobacco-producing regions they were grown. The cigars are also made by Oliva in Nicaragua.

While the name of the cigar is the same, and the sales sheet made reference to the 2012 release of the Daruma, the blend is not a throwback to the Room101 Daruma that was originally released back in 2012, as it is quite different on paper from the original. That original cigar used an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, Brazilian mata fina binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Honduras. Rather, this upcoming cigar is the next chapter of the Daruma, Matt Booth, Room101’s founder, told halfwheel.

The new Room101 Daruma will be offered in a 6 x 50 toro vitola priced at $12.99 per cigar and offered in 10-count boxes. It is a limited edition release, with 2,000 boxes produced, making for a total of 20,000 cigars. It will be distributed by Forged Cigar Co.

“The return of Daruma is symbolic of the relationship with STG and Room101 moving forward,” said Booth in a press release. “It represents the opportunity for Room101 to spread its wings which has always been our goal. And just as goals change and times change, Daruma has evolved. The Daruma of 2011 would not be the Daruma of today. The blend is correct and appropriate for now and begins a new chapter for both Daruma and Room101. This cigar is exactly what it needs to be, and it gives people exactly what it needs to give them. Light up a Daruma and celebrate how far you come and set a course for your next big adventure.”

Additionally, the representative told halfwheel that the company is planning for another limited edition that will celebrate the 14th anniversary of the Room101 Cigars brand, though no details about that cigar were announced other than that it is to come in red packaging.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
