The first of the 2018 Edición Limitada releases is set to debut in Spain this Saturday, when Habanos S.A., the distributor Tabacalera S.L.U. and the cigar club Club Pasión Habanos will hold a world premiere launch event in Madrid.

The cigar, the Romeo y Julieta Tacos Edición Limitada 2018, is a 6 3/5 x 49 grand corona and comes in 25-count boxes. While this particular size does not appear in the current regular production line of the Romeo y Julieta marca, it is not a complete stranger to the brand. A press release sent by Habanos S.A. says that this is a “vitola that has been reclaimed from the 1970s,” referencing a cigar called the Tacos Imperiales.

The launch event will also feature a cocktail dinner, a selection of gourmet products, music and other surprises, according to the press release.

Cigar lovers in Spain who won’t be at the event won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the Romeo y Julieta Tacos Edición Limitada 2018, as the cigars are slated to be available in the country as of Monday, Sept. 10, and will come priced at €18 per cigar, or just under $21.

The wait should not be long for those outside Spain, either, as a spokesperson for Phoenicia Trading A.A., which distributes to much of the Middle East and Africa, told halfwheel that they have received the cigars as well and will be putting them out to retailers next week as well. Similarly, a spokesperson for Diadema S.p.A., which distributes to Italy, said that they are expecting to receive the cigars this month.

The 2018 Edición Limitada class is rounded out by the Bolívar Soberanos, a 5 1/2 x 54 robusto extra that comes in 10-count boxes, and the H. Upmann Propios, a corona extra which measures 4 7/10 x 46 and is packaged in 25-count boxes. All of Habanos S.A.’s Edición Limitadas are sizes not offered in the respective brand’s regular production portfolios. In addition, the wrapper, binder and filler are all aged for a minimum of two years.

No release dates for those cigars have been announced yet.

(Update) Shortly after this article was originally published, pricing and additional release information was confirmed and added to the article. Representatives from several distributors have told halfwheel that the cigar will also be available in limited quantities in several markets around the globe, including Switzerland, Canada, Mexico and the Benelux region, which includes Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for, plus I'm a voice over artist. I previously covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
