In 2004, Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, Inc. released The Edge, which has become one of the best-selling premium cigars since its introduction.

This year, the company will release The Edge 20th Anniversary, a cigar it’s been teasing on social media. According to the company’s website, The Edge 20th Anniversary will use a 10-year-old Ecuadorian Sumatran wrapper over a blend of tobaccos from Honduras and Nicaragua. In videos uploaded to the company’s Vimeo page, Rocky Patel, the company’s founder, indicates the wrapper is based on the Sumatran wrapper that the company used for the original version of The Edge.

There are three sizes being introduced:

  • Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Robusto (5 1/2 x 50) — $11 (Box of 20, $220)
  • Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Toro (6 x 52) — $12 (Box of 20, $240)
  • Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Sixty (6 x 60) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270)

It will debut at this week’s 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place July 9-12 in Las Vegas.

The company is currently running a contest promotion called Era of the Edge and releasing teasers of the cigar on social media. Last year, Rocky Patel ran a very similar promotion ahead of the debut of the Sixty by Rocky Patel at the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show.

The Edge is currently offered in a variety of blends—A-10, Candela, Connecticut, Corojo, Habano, Maduro and Sumatra—and a variety of sizes, though it’s best known as a cigar sold in toro and torpedo sizes. The original versions of The Edge were introduced in 2004, offered in those two sizes and sold in crates of 100 cigars, which didn’t have bands. Since then, more sizes, blends and bands have been added, though it remains a humidor mainstay.

For those trying to figure out the admittedly confusing math behind the 20th anniversary, it seems likely that the 20th anniversary refers to when Rocky Patel started working on the project and not when the cigar was released. Only adding to the confusion is that the A-10, launched to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Edge, was released in 2015.

Update (July 7, 2022) — Added sizes, pricing and ship date. This story was originally published on June 10, 2022.
