Last week, Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, Inc. informed its retailers of an upcoming price increase that will take effect on Jan. 2, 2023.

While not every line will increase in price, most of the company’s lines will increase. Overall, the price increase amounts to a 4.87 percent increase per halfwheel’s comparison of the 2022 and 2023 price lists.

“Due to increased costs associated with the production, tobacco, and transportation of our products we are required to administer a cost adjustment on all Rocky Patel branded cigars as well as all Private Label cigars and Accessories effective on January 2, 2023,” said Rocky Patel, founder of Rocky Patel Premium Cigars, Inc., in a letter to retailers.

With very few exceptions, if a cigar’s price is increasing, it is doing so by 5-6 percent.

The following lines are not increasing in price:

  • DBS
  • Hamlet 2020
  • Hamlet 25th Anniversary
  • Liberation by Hamlet Paredes
  • Tabaquero by Hamlet Paredes

DBS is one of three new lines Rocky Patel introduced this year and began shipping last week. Interestingly, the other two new lines for the company—The 1865 Project and The Edge 20th Anniversary—will be increasing for 2023.

It is widely expected that most cigar companies will be increasing prices next year, most of which are likely to be announced in the first quarter of the year as that is when most companies traditionally make these announcements. Reasons for these increases include increased costs for tobacco and packaging, increased competition for labor, general inflation, and mirroring competitors’ price adjustments.

The following chart is a look at what companies have announced price increases or no price increases for 2023.
