Earlier this week, the Ramón Allones Private Stock 230, an Edición Regional release, arrived in the United Kingdom.

The Private Stock 230 measures 6 3/4 inches (170mm) x 50, a parejo vitola known as the Partagás 16 that was also used for the Por Larrañaga Magnifico, a 2007 Edición Regional release for the United Kingdom.

A total of 3,600 numbered boxes of 25 cigars will be released. Per Hunters & Frankau, the U.K. distributor of Cuban cigars, the suggested price is £79.50 ($94.76) per cigar or £1,901 ($2,265) per box.

The Edición Regional program is offered by Habanos S.A. to its various distributors around the world. Each year, distributors can select one cigar to be commissioned for their region, though there have been exceptions when some distributors have been able to select more than one. Those cigars must come from a brand that was not part of the company’s former “Global Brands” and must be a size that is currently not offered in that specific brand.

Edición Regional cigars are signified by a secondary red and silver band that reads Edición Regional followed typically by the name of the region represented by that specific distributor. Oftentimes the cigars do not arrive at stores during the year they are selected for, sometimes multiple years later. This release is technically part of the 2020 program.

While the boxes are just beginning to arrive at stores this week, the cigar was actually released in limited quantities as part of the Hunters & Frankau House Reserve Series 1790 humidor that went on sale in September.

As for the boxes, they pay tribute to the original Ramón Allones Private Stock that existed in the early 20th century when the brand was owned by John Hunter Morris and Elkan Limited, a predecessor to Hunters & Frankau. The white band and yellow ribbon are both nods to the original Private Stock packaging.
