This year, Fine Ash Cigars in Avondale, Ariz. will be getting a new barber pole version of the Quesada Reserva Privada, released in a 5 3/4 x 48 corona gorda vitola.

Sam Lopez, owner of Fine Ash Cigars, told halfwheel that a release date has not yet been set, but said he expects it to be available later this year. A limited amount will be made available to members of the store’s cigar club in June, cigars that have been aging for just about a year.

The core of this new cigar is the same as the rest of the Quesada Reserva Privada line, with a Dominican criollo binder that comes from the 1997 crop, and filler tobaccos from the San Vicente region of the Dominican Republic and ligero from Pennsylvania. As for the barber pole wrapper, it uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf and a Dominican criollo 98 oscuro leaf.

Lopez notes that the cigars will be priced at $12.95 each.

This is the second Quesada Reserva Privada to head to Fine Ash Cigars as an exclusive size; in April 2016 the store celebrated its fifth anniversary with a 6 1/2 x 46 corona gorda.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
