May 17, 2012 (Clearwater, FL) — The Blanco Cigar Company is the only cigar manufacturer/importer to have been certified as a cigar supplier for the 2012 Republican National Convention being held in Tampa, Aug 27-30.

“It’s an honor to be representing Tampa’s cigar history and our Cuban heritage to the nation and global media” said David Blanco, of Blanco Cigar Co. “We have years of experience with events, the best staff, and a premium quality product so we know we’ll create a memorable Cigar City experience for the conventioneers.”

Pride of the Cigar City

Founded in Tampa at the turn of the century Blanco Cigar Co. (originally Los Blancos Cigar Company) has always been an active part of the community through their charitable donations and support of community groups, festivals and events.   From parading with a pirate “Krewe” during the Gasparilla parades to providing cigars and staff for the International Military Coalition Reception, they have always been front and center in giving back to the community.  So when the Organizing Committee for the convention needed cigars for a reception for the national and global media, it was Blanco Cigars that stepped-up to represent the community and its cigar heritage.

“We were happy to be a part of the Media Reception and were really surprised at how well we were received,” said Ted Reinhard, Blanco Cigar Co. Event Director. “The media hasn’t always been a fan of premium tobacco, but that evening we had a chance to entertain, educate, change a few minds and even make some friends along the way.”

For events during the convention Blanco Cigars will have a small army of cigar rollers available to do rolling demonstrations at various party venues around the city.  The rollers will be supported by a staff of professional cigar “sommeliers” to help neophytes enjoy the cigar experience as well as educate and discuss issues facing the cigar industry.  And of course, there will be a wide selection of the highly rated Blanco cigars ready to be smoked and enjoyed with plenty more always nearby at their Tampa area headquarters and warehouse.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
