La Sirena Cigars has announced a new line that is scheduled to be on shelves by the end of May, a wallet-friendly offering called Porthole by La Sirena.

Made at Erik Espinosa’s La Zona factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, the Porthole by La Sirena line will be limited in production and made up three cigars in a pair of blends. The first blend uses a Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper with Nicaraguan binder and filler and will be released in two sizes: a 6 x 58 with an MSRP of $6.90 and a 5 x 44 corona with an MSRP of $6.30. Only 10,000 cigars will be produced in the larger size, with just 5,000 in the smaller vitola.

The third cigar uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper on top of Nicaraguan binder and filler and will be released in a single 6 x 50 toro vitola with an MSRP of $6.60, with production limited to 5,000 cigars as well.

All three sizes will come in 25-count boxes, and have been resting at La Zona for approximately six months as the packaging materials are being finalized. The cigars are being offered to all brick-and-mortar La Sirena accounts.

Danny Ditkowich of La Sirena Cigars told halfwheel that this release will feature a much simpler packaging and presentation than the rest of the La Sirena line, which in turn helps to keep the cost down. He added that even with the lower cost, the quality of the cigars is on par with the others in the brand’s portfolio. He credited his daughter, Arielle, with listening to the requests of customers and retailers to create a cigar under $7 but that still offers the flavors and profile for which the company has become known, and then working with the La Zona team to source the tobacco to make the request a reality.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
