Peter James Leather Co., best known to cigar smokers for its leather travel humidors, is launching its own cigar line, two cigar lines actually.

Next month, the company will debut two blends under the Los Estoico 54 name. The Los Estoico 54 Habano uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper over binders from Indonesia and Mexico and three different fillers: Nicaraguan tobaccos from Condega and Estelí, and one undisclosed filler.

The Los Estoico 54 Maduro uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over an Indonesian binder and the same list of fillers: Condega, Estelí and undisclosed. Tabacalera de Aragon S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua is making the blends.

Both cigars are offered at launch in a single 5 3/4 x 52 robusto extra size. Each cigar has an MSRP of $15 and will be offered in boxes of 12 as well as packs of five.

That might lead to questions about why “54” is in the name if the cigars aren’t 54 ring gauge. It’s because the “54” is a reference to the first cigar John Peter Laurendi took from his father. That cigar was a 54 ring gauge and Laurendi wanted to pay tribute to his father with the subtle reference.

Laurendi says the Habano has flavors of “dark chocolate, hazelnut, and Cafe Con Leche,” while he describes the Maduro as bolder with flavors of ” dark chocolate, freshly roasted espresso bean, with an earthy finish.”

Peter James is handling the sales, though Luxury Cigar Club—a multifaceted cigar retailer and subscription service—will handle American fulfillment as Peter James is a Canadian company.

The Los Estoico 54 will go on sale on June 1 and the company plans on showing them off at the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place July 9-12 in Las Vegas.
