One of the things I enjoy about the PCA Convention and Trade Show is seeing old friends I’ve met throughout the many years I’ve attended. Another thing I particularly enjoy is meeting new people and getting introduced to their brand.

Sometimes that’s a new brand to the entire market, other times it’s a brand that is looking to expand and attending the show is their first step. Viva Habano Cigars falls into the second category.

Previously, Viva Habano Cigars were only available at a few retailers in New Jersey, but Santo Trejo took some time to tell me about the brand and the effort to expand. Viva Habano isn’t quite like most other new brands I encounter, however, as this is a true farm-to-shelf cigar. All of the tobacco they use is grown at the Viva Habano farm, rolled at their factory Tabacalera Viva Habano and sold under the brand name Viva Habano Cigars. Trejo was happy to tell me a little bit about their cigars, which also included some brand new releases here at the show.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
