PCA 2022: The Cigar Ashtray

While a lot of companies’ names are fairly descriptive of what they are, such as So-and-So’s Cigars, or This-City’s Cigar Factory, it doesn’t get much more clear than The Cigar Ashtray. While Charlie Minato noted last year that owner Leon Jorjorian might not have known who we were the first show covering them, he certainly remembered us this year and was happy to talk to us again about the new products from the company, all of which are available and shipping now.

If you just briefly glanced at the booth, many of the ashtrays on tables in the booth seemed similar, with your basic shapes — round, square and rectangle — in different colors, but that’s about it. Upon closer inspection, however, the variety of shapes, sizes, and nuanced differences between them start to put in perspective how many choices the company gives you when choosing an ashtray.

Manufactured in El Paso, Texas, all of the ashtrays are made out of billet aluminum, CNC machined, and then finished with powder coating or laser engraving. One of the new options being offered this year is custom vinyl decals, which are then covered in epoxy to protect the design from the heat of the cigars.

In addition to a vinyl inlay, one of the new ashtray sizes offered this year is the 6″ x 10″ large rectangular-shaped ashtrays. Pictured above is the version with the grooves for a cigar on the end, but other options include corner grooves and a 2-finger elongated octagonal version.

Also new this year are larger sizes in both the 8 x 8 square ashtrays and the eight-inch diameter round ashtrays. These also come in a variety of shapes and sizes, including a gear-shaped ashtray.

Single-Finger Ladies Heart-Shaped Ashtray

Another new offering is a single-finger ashtray in the shape of a heart, which was noted as being part of a new ladies’ series of ashtrays, which include the hearts above and other shapes like high-heels.

Editor’s Note: The cigar industry as a whole has had a tough time marketing to women, and while things have gotten better; in my opinion, products like this don’t help. While I suspect that many of you won’t think twice about it, seeing the word “Ladies” in the name made me cringe, and others are likely to have stronger reactions. There’s no reason why this couldn’t just be “Single-Finger Heart Shaped Ashtray.” — Charlie Minato.
