Steel Horse Cigar Co. is the creation of Lee Hammond, who lives in the Dominican Republic and began working with Tabacalera William Ventura on the creation of its portfolio of cigars, which currently includes three lines, the Steel Horse Connecticut, Steel Horse Corojo and Steel Horse Maduro, each of which are available in five vitolas.

At the 2022 PCA Convention & Trade Show, the brand was part of the Luxury Cigar Club booth along with J. London Cigars, as LCC sells and distributes both the brands through its online store, monthly cigar subscription service and its network of retailers.

While the Steel Horse Cigar Co. portfolio features fairly familiar vitolas, its newest release comes in one of the more unique vitolas for cigars, the culebra. And while I haven’t stopped by each and every booth on the show floor, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the only culebra being shown off as a new product. If it’s not the only one, it’s certainly one of just a handful.

Steel Horse Cigar Co. Snake Eyes

Hammond is still finalizing some of the details with this cigar, but it is expected to be available in August. As he shows in the video, it comes with a pair of dice in each coffin to pair up with the name as well as give the packaging a bit of sound, as it attempts to replicate the sound of a rattlesnake’s tail when you shake the coffin with the dice inside. This is coming from the El Maestro factory, which Hammond said is William Ventura’s boutique factory.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
