When Noel Rojas showed up for the first time at the Guayacan booth during the 2013 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, there was a buzz around him for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the fact that he owned and operated his own factory named Tabacalera Aromas de Jalapa. Over the years, his business has undergone some significant changes, including renovating an old movie theatre in Estelí, Nicaragua and turning it into the Rojas Cigar Factory.

For this year’s PCA show, Rojas is showing off not only the latest version of his popular KSG Lancero—the KSG in the name stands for King of Small Gauges—but also an addition to his Street Tacos Series and a new four-vitola line.

In terms of the company’s actual booth space, Rojas Cigars and Stolen Throne Cigars are located right next to each other in matching wooden-covered wagons that were hand-made in Nicaragua. The space is well-defined and there is plenty of room to walk around, while multiple sitting areas have been strategically placed for maximum convenience.

Rojas KSG Lancero
The Rojas KSG line is getting its third release but only its second new size; after the line debuted in April 2020 in a 7 1/2 x 38 lancero, this size was released as an exclusive to Privada Cigar Club. It now returns but will be available to any of Rojas Cigars retailers. The line’s name is an acronym for King of Small Gauge, and future releases will only come in vitolas smaller than 50 ring gauge. The blend is centered around tobacco purchased by Noel Rojas in 2019 from Somoto, a lesser-known growing region located northwest of Estelí near the border with Honduras.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
