Matilde Cigars returned to the PCA Convention & Trade Show as part of a larger booth operated by Sutliff, which distributes the company’s cigars along with several other brands including Patina, Casa Turrent, Los Caidos and others.

In terms of the space itself, it’s a slightly bigger than medium-sized space, with each of the brands represented by Sutliff getting what amounts to a standard bookcase on which to show its products. Those bookcases line the long sides of the space, with display islands at the short-sided entrances, as well as shared seating areas and some additional work stations in the middle. Because there are several companies there, it results in a fairly steady volume of traffic, and the opportunity for retailers to see several brands that they might or might not know in a fairly short amount of time.

As for what was new on the shelf, Enrique Seijas is continuing to develop his Limited Exposure line, releasing the second size in the first blend, while sharing some details about when the next releases will come out.

Matilde Limited Exposure No.1

This line debuted at the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show, and laid the groundwork for what is slated to be a trio of limited edition releases that will make appearances at future PCA shows as well as the TPE show in the winter. It debuted in a 6 x 50 toro, and that size is returning for its second batch, while a new Lonsdale is making its debut. As for upcoming releases, a Limited Exposure No.2 Lonsdale is slated for the 2023 TPE, while Limited Exposure No.3 is scheduled for the 2023 PCA Convention & Trade Show. Seijas also noted that he may make adjustments to the blends as he gets feedback from consumers and retailers, and if he does so, he will update the year on the front of the box. For now, this remains the No.1 2021.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
