This is the second year that Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. has exhibited at the PCA Convention & Trade Show, as the company launched in 2020 and made its trade show debut the following year.

The company has one of my favorite booth designs, a clean and simple booth that mixes materials and stays in a somewhat dark palette, but uses well-placed lighting to brighten up the space and highlight its products. There are a few booths on the floor that I’d go furniture shopping in, and Jake Wyatt is near the top of the list, as the main seating area looks pretty much what I’d want my own living room or cigar lounge to look like.

Over the course of the last year or so, Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. has been adding more lanceros to its portfolio. At the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show, the company released a limited edition lancero sampler pack featuring its five Gourmet Series blends in the 7 x 38 vitola. After adding the Lithium Lancero at TPE 2022, the company is now making those Gourmet Series lanceros a regular production part of its lineup at this year’s PCA show.

Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. Herbert Spencer Lancero

This line gets its name from the English philosopher who said that “there is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. This principle is, contempt prior to examination.” In other words, don’t knock something until you try it.

Jake Wyatt U.S.I.R. Lancero

This one gets its name from an acronym for unsuspected inner resource, which the company says is another way of how people find that next gear or level of performance that they didn’t know they had inside of them. It’s medium- to full-bodied, and because this cigar has a more complicated blend, the pricing is a bit higher than the other blends in the Gourmet Line.

  • Wrapper: Dominican Republic (Habano Rosado) & Mexico (San Andrés Maduro)
  • Binder: Dominican Republic
  • Filler: Dominican Republic
  • Jake Wyatt Cigar Co. U.S.I.R. Lancero (7 x 38) — $12.68 (Box of 22, $278.96)

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
