At the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show, Vlada Stojanov tried to put three different companies in a 10 x 10. This year, he, fortunately, decided to expand the booth which includes Lampert and Xhaxhi Bobi. It almost functions as if there are four companies in the booth as Jeremy Casdagli has his own area just to talk about the new Cypher 3311 project.

I will say, Casdagli’s booth continues to feel a bit chaotic. I suspect this is the decision to leave the products out on the tables and treat it more like a hawker stall than a place to enter. It creates a lot of energy, but it’s a bit of an organized chaos approach, sometimes less organized than others. It also leads to your cigars getting stolen, something that was definitely an issue for Casdagli and its associated companies.

I walked by the booth numerous times on Monday and never found much of a lull. One positive aspect to the hawker stall approach means that it’s not challenging to get people to stop by, that was certainly no issue for the time that I was there.

Cypher 3311

This is one of the more intricate and interesting stories behind a cigar brand. It’s named after Major A. T. Casdagli, Jeremy’s grandfather. He was captured by the Nazis and served time as a POW. While doing so, he was allowed to stitch needlepoints and he ended up embedding hidden messages into various pieces of artwork that he created. This was done as part of the British Intelligence unit MI-9 and Casdagli’s messages would include information about captivities, prisoner escapes or troop movements. Casdagli is also reprinting “A Stitch in Time. God save the King – Fu*k Hitler!,” a book written by his father that details the story in greater detail. For the cigar release, Casdagli is donating €1 per cigar to the Red Cross, which A. T. Casdagli credits for saving his life.

As you might expect, there are hidden messages in the packaging. I was explained a few of them, but I’m sure more details will emerge as time goes on, they always do.

One of the art pieces was on display in the booth.

The first batch of the Cyper 3311 is limited to 8,000 cigars but there will be more next year. Jeremy Casdagli told me that the cigars will be aged for a year before release and that the 2023 release is in production.
