Based in Atlanta, ATL Cigar Co. was founded by Leroy Lamar III, Peter Gross and Janelle Lamar in 2020. Since then, the company has released four different lines and has made a couple of major changes to its operation.

One of the biggest changes came earlier this year when the company announced it was reblending the ATL Black line and moving production to Tabacalera Pichardo, perhaps best known as the factory that produces ACE Prime’s cigars as well as a number of cigars from Crowned Heads.

The ATL Cigar Co. booth is compact in size, but it is clear that co-owners Gross and Lamar are full of energy and passion as they talk to booth visitors about their offerings. Lamar told me that the company is currently working on at least one new product but that details are scarce at the moment.

I have been smoking cigars for over eight years. A documentary wedding photographer by trade, I spent seven years as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I started the cigar blog SmokingStogie in 2008 after realizing that there was a need for a cigar blog with better photographs and more in-depth information about each release. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars. I am a co-founder of halfwheel and now serve as an editor for halfwheel.
