If there’s one thing I’ve come to learn over several trade shows—and a recent move to a new home—is that unnecessary stuff is heavy to move around. As such, and as a byproduct of having our on-floor bunker, I’m carrying around a lot less in my eBags backpack. That means that the MacBook Pro and its cables and dongle stay in the booth. As does the extra portable Anker battery and anything else that I don’t need to have on my back while walking around the show floor.
What does come with me is a lot of the same things I have carried around in years past, are really the true essentials for the floor:
- Sony A7iii camera with an f/2.8, 16-35mm lens
- Sennheiser AVX wireless mic for interviews
- Peak Design Tripod — a full-size version for booth videos and a tabletop version for accessory videos
- Reporter’s notebook
- Pens — specifically from Uniball and Muji
- Anker portable battery (small)
- Business cards
- Hand sanitizer
- Water
As for the other things that would be in my bag but tend to stay on my desk in the bunker:
- XIKAR MTX Cigar Scissors
- JetLine Super Torch or JetLine Jetmaster, or a Palió Vesuvio
- Goody’s Headache Powder
- Anker portable battery (large)
- Shure SE215 earphones
- Sony WH-1000XM3 noise-canceling headphones
Hopefully several trade shows have finally taught me to pack as light as possible and my back will be in decent shape when the trade show wraps up. Also—hopefully I don’t knock anything over with the tripod.
