Instead of rolling out a new line or limited edition this year, Casa Turrent is adding some four new sizes to each of the four lines in its 1880 series, with each blend getting its own new vitola, and released on a staggered schedule throughout the rest of the year. That makes for a total of 16 new SKUs for the Mexican cigar maker, one of the highest totals that I came across on the show floor this year. Of note about the 1880 lines, all of the Mexican-grown tobacco comes from the Turrent’s farms.

With so many new products, it would seem to make sense that Casa Turrent might have a big booth or at least a sizable display, but as the company is part of the Sutliff Tobacco booth due to its distribution agreement, it is limited to a shared space and essentially a decent sized bookcase. But all the lines are represented and Turrent has a couple of boxes of the new sizes stashed away that he could pull out for pictures and to show them off.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
