A smoking ban is coming to the parks of Paxton, Ill., as on Tuesday the city council approved a proposed ordinance by a 5-2 vote.

The ban applies to the use of all forms of tobacco as well as electronic cigarettes, with violators subject a fine of $100 for a first offense, $150 for a second offense and $200 for each subsequent violation. Additionally, a person unwilling to comply with an order to cease smoking could be charged with trespassing and subject to a 24 hour ban from a park.

The ban goes into effect immediately, subject to any conditions provided for by the Illinois Municipal Code.

Paxton is located in Ford County, about 25 miles north of Champaign and 110 miles south of Chicago. It has a population around 4,300 residents.
