Patina Cigars is queuing up shipments of its new Anniversary limited edition, which celebrates the company’s first five years in business and will begin shipping to retailers on Monday, April 10.

The cigar is a 6 x 52 toro that uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés binder and fillers from the U.S. and Nicaragua. It is produced at Nicaraguan American Cigars S.A. in Estelí, Nicaragua, with production limited to 500 boxes of 10 cigars.

Pricing is set at $20 per cigar and $200 per box.

“Three main factors went into shaping the Patina Anniversary,” said Mo Maali, founder of Patina Cigars, in a press release. “First, was to use a wrapper leaf which we had not previously used, in this case, Connecticut broadleaf. Second, produce a limited number of cigars, which for the anniversary is 5,000. Lastly, I asked myself, is this a blend that has the potential to age well? So, during the process, we wanted to make sure that the cigar had the characteristics that gave it potential to benefit from time as many consumers stash limited production cigars to smoke on given occasions at some point in the future.”

The company will launch the Patina Anniversary with three in-store events in the Phoenix, Ariz. area from April 13-15 and another event in Ann Arbor, Mich. on April 21.

Patina Cigars’ first lines were released to the U.S. market in May 2017, meaning the company has been around for more than the five years that this cigar celebrates. The company was forced to delay the Anniversary cigar due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
