Avanti Cigars, known for its Parodi brand, has gone to the Dominican Republic for a new cigar called Marzio.

Parodi is a machine made-cigar that uses American-grown tobaccos rolled with just a wrapper and filler, i.e. no binder. However, for Marzio, the company is using a combination of the fire cured tobacco Parodi uses in its little cigars and traditional air cured tobacco. It is being made by La Aurora, rolled by hand and using longfiller.

Two sizes are offered Corona Gorda (6 x 47) and Robusto (5 x 50). Both cigars have a Kentucky-grown fire cured dark and a Sumatra binder, but the filler blends are slightly different. The Corona Gorda uses an equal mature of Kentucky fire cured tobaccos, Dominican olor seco and Nicaraguan viso; whereas the Robusto features a 50/50 mixture of “Italian Kentucky fire cured” and Dominican old seco.

Both cigars are aged for at least one year, priced at $7.50 and being offered in both 10- and 24-count boxes.

It’s distributed by Miami Cigar & Co. though it’s only being sold in nine states: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Jason Wood, vp of Miami Cigar & Co., told halfwheel the company will review sales in the coming months to determine if it will be offered nationally.

Marzio began shipping this month.

Update: This article originally stated that Miami Cigar & Co. distributes Avanti/Parodi, that is incorrect.
