The next iteration of the Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial will come in Double Robusto form. According to a company official, Oliva—which also makes the 5 x 54 size in the standard Serie V line—expects the cigar to ship in November, the sixth version of the annual release.
Some details are still being finalized but pricing will be $8.50 per cigar. The production run will be slightly larger than most of the Serie V Maduro Especials, with production totaling 80,000 cigars.
While it is the sixth consecutive year for the maduro take on the popular Serie V line, it’s actually the eighth Serie V Maduro. In 2010, the company released the Serie V Edición Europa 2010 which featured a Mexican maduro wrapper and late last year released a Diadema with San Andrés wrapper as part of an event-only sampler.
Earlier this year, the company released the Serie V Melanio Maduro, which is also expected to be an annual release.
Update (October 16, 2013): Oliva has issued the following press release.
October 16, 2013 (Miami, Fla.) — Oliva Cigar is introducing the latest edition to its award winning Oliva Serie V line of cigars; the Serie V Maduro Double Robusto. For the last few years Oliva has annually released a limited edition Serie V Maduro to great acclaim from cigar smokers and this year’s edition should continue that tradition.
The 2013 Oliva Serie V Maduro is a double robusto measuring 5 inches long with a 54 ring gauge. The blend is a Nicaraguan habano grown in the Jalapa region of the country and wrapped in a Mexican maduro from the lush San Andres Valley. This will be a limited edition run, only 8,000 boxes will be produced. The cigar is scheduled to arrive at retail by mid-November, just in time for the holiday season, and will have a $8.50 suggested retail price.
“Premium cigar smokers have come to look forward to our annual Serie V Maduro release and believe me they won’t be disappointed by this year’s edition” stated Cory Bappert, Vice President of Sales at Oliva Cigar. “This is the perfect cigar for the smoker who enjoys the Serie V but also likes the extra flavor of a maduro cigar”.
Update (November 12, 2013): The cigars are beginning to arrive in stores.
