Oliva Melanio 6 x 60 Heads to Europe (Update)

For those that have thought the large ring gauge trend is simply an American fad, Oliva’s newest release should shed light on the rest of the world’s fascination with bigger cigars. The company has begun shipping a 6 x 60 Serie V Melanio to Europe, the seventh and thickest size in the line.

The Gordo vitola is box-pressed like the rest of the line and is the second limited edition following the release of the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro earlier this year. Only 500 boxes of 10 cigars will be heading to Europe.

Scott Vines of Tor Imports Ltd, the distributor for Oliva in United Kingdom, posted a picture of the release and indicated the cigar began to ship to retailers in the region last Friday:

Vines told halfwheel the Oliva Serie V Special Edition would retail in the U.K. for around £21 ($34) per cigar, or £210 per box of 10. At that price point, it will become one of the most expensive cigars Oliva has made to date.

According to Brian Shapiro, director of international sales for Oliva, the cigar will be available in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The Nicaraguan cigar manufacturer is no stranger to European releases. In 2010 the company released the Serie V Edición Europa 2010 and the Serie V Diadema Den Bosch. Last year, the company followed it up with a longer Serie V Diadema and earlier this year it began shipping the Viejo Mundo, a cigar that will remain exclusively in Europe for a year.
