J. Cortès, the owner of Oliva Cigar Co., has purchased tobacco farms in Condega, Nicaragua.

There are multiple transactions. One of them included the purchasing of a new 132-hectare farm. Cortès also had a separate transaction with the Oliva family, which involved the purchasing of the family’s Condega growing operations. That deal includes the physical operations, some land as well as the rights to various leases. In total, that transaction totals 305 hectares, though some of it is leased land.

J. Cortès purchased Oliva from the family in 2016. It is in the process of a major renovation to the company’s cigar factories in Nicaragua.

I am an editor and co-founder of halfwheel.com/Rueda Media, LLC. I previously co-founded and published TheCigarFeed, one of the two predecessors of halfwheel. I have written about the cigar industry for more than a decade, covering everything from product launches to regulation to M&A. In addition, I handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff here at halfwheel. I enjoy playing tennis, watching boxing, falling asleep to the Le Mans 24, wearing sweatshirts year-round and eating gyros. echte liebe.
